Our groceries
It requires much care and effort, a great deal of imagination and reliable, devoted people to keep it developing for the future. Grandma’s Grocery requires constant, all-day-round effort. Opening hours are from 10 a.m. till 7 p.m. but this is only for information. We, the owners spend normally much more time in the shop. Why is that? We are often asked this question. The answer is not that we cannot relax.
Lean back in your chairs, and I will tell you the story of our grocery. Every evening we unload the products from the display case into our cold-storage room. We know that many shopkeepers just leave them there and simply cover it with paper. This would be unimaginable in our grocery, because the display case is just to show the products but not to store them. It is a good solution for daytime, but not enough for the whole night, that is why we use our cold-storage room. Only in such way can the products remain fresh and healthy.
And hygienic arguments are also underpinning this. After having unloaded all products one by one, we thoroughly clean the entire inside of the display case as well as the glass surfaces. Every day we unwrap and rewrap our cheeses, because they need the fresh air and our attention. Every morning we carefully put the products back to the display case. Friday is the day of overall cleaning, including, among others, the entrance section and the wooden boards.
I guess I gave you a little insight to our everyday work to provide quality, cleanliness perfection and in our grocery. We also considered opening subsidiaries in other districts, but we were afraid, that we would not be able to provide you everywhere with the same standard of quality, that we have now in our present shop. Therefore we remain to be available only in the 1st district, at 5, Pauler street.
